Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice is a network of crime survivors joining together to create healing communities and shape public policy.

Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice is building a movement to heal together and promote policies that help the people and communities most harmed by crime and violence.

What started off as a statewide network in California in 2012 has grown into a national network with chapters growing in seven different states, and a membership of more than 10,000 survivors.

Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice California has active chapters in Los Angeles, Stockton, Bay Area, Sacramento, and San Diego.

Trauma Recovery Centers

Through advocacy, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice has won state policies to expand trauma recovery centers across California. Trauma recovery centers provide comprehensive services to underserved crime victims that support survivors and their families on their healing journeys.

Despite substantial increases in criminal justice expenditures over the past three decades, the majority of crime survivors do not receive support to help them recover from harm. State spending on victim services represents about 1 percent of what the state spends on the prison system. In other words, California spends nearly 80 times more on prisons than on services for crime victims.

The National Survey of Victims’ Views is the first-of-its-kind research on crime survivors’ experiences with the criminal justice system and their preferences for safety and justice policy.
